KEMP LENIHAN
Kemp Lenihan from Nelson
is famous for his exquisite turned and carved wooden bowls and
platters. He often incorporates bird, fish and maori motives
into his work. He has a particular interest in turning burr
wood. Burr is a type of wood in which the grain has grown in a
deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded
outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small
knots from dormant buds. It is extremely hard and is very
difficult to turn, but the results are stunning and well worth
the effort.
